Clinical Significance

Hepatitis C virus (HCV) is a bloodborne virus that primarily affects the liver, causing hepatitis C. It is a significant public health concern worldwide due to its potential to cause chronic liver disease, cirrhosis, and liver cancer.
    HCV is primarily spread through blood-to-blood contact and diagnosed through blood tests.  HCV treatment has improved significantly with the development of direct-acting antiviral (DAA) medications. These drugs can cure over 90% of HCV infections with an 8-12 week course of therapy.
