Progesterone (Prog)

Clinical Significance

Progesterone (progesterone), also known as luteinizing hormone and luteinizing hormone, is the main biologically active progesterone secreted by the ovaries. Before ovulation, the amount of progesterone hormone produced is 2-3mg per day, mainly from the ovaries. After ovulation, it rises to 20~30mg per day, the vast majority of which is secreted by the corpus luteum in the ovary.

Progesterone protects the endometrium of a woman's uterus. During a woman's pregnancy, progesterone hormone can provide support and security for the early growth and development of the fetus, and it can have a calming effect on the uterus. In addition, progesterone hormone and estrogen are inextricably linked, and both are quite important female hormones.

The role of estrogen is to promote the development and maturation of the secondary female sex characteristics, while progesterone hormone is based on the role of estrogen to further promote the development and maturation of the secondary female sex characteristics, and there is a synergistic effect between the two.
