    Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) is a type of bacteria that infects the stomach.  It is a common cause of peptic ulcers and can lead to chronic gastritis and, in some cases, stomach cancer.

    Prevention of H. pylori infection includes good hygiene practices, such as washing hands thoroughly, eating food that is properly prepared and cooked, and drinking water from a safe source.
