Clinical Significance

Anti-thyroglobulin (Anti-Tg) refers to antibodies that target thyroglobulin, a protein produced by the thyroid gland that is essential for the synthesis of thyroid hormones.  These antibodies can be detected in the blood and are often used as a marker in the diagnosis and management of thyroid disorders.

The presence of Anti-Tg antibodies can help differentiate between different types of thyroid disorders.They can interfere with the measurement of thyroglobulin levels in the blood, which is important in monitoring thyroid cancer patients.
