Recently, the World Health Organization (WHO) is monitoring a new coronavirus variant called "Mu" that the agency says has the potential to evade immunity provided by previous new coronavirus infections or vaccinations. The WHO said in an announcement on Aug. 30 local time that it has classified the Mu strain as a "new coronavirus variant of interest" (Variants of Interest), with a spectrum of B.1.621.
The strain was first identified in the South American country of Colombia in January of this year and has been reported in 39 countries and territories, including many in South America, as well as European countries such as the UK, the US and Hong Kong in China. The WHO said that although surveillance has shown a decline in the global prevalence of the "Mu" variant, it is still on the rise in Colombia and its neighboring country, Ecuador.
As a professional in vitro diagnostic material supplier, we will keep track of the prevalence of the new strains in order to promote the development of diagnostic reagents and help fight against the new strains.
